About the Walker Charitable Foundation, Inc.
The Walker Charitable Foundation, Inc. was established to fulfill the dream of Charles and James Walker, two African-American brothers who personally knew the hardships involved in attaining higher education and finding one’s way in the world.
Charles and James arranged that, upon their deaths, their estates would be used to assist underprivileged, inner-city students to successfully complete college or trade school with no debt and the knowledge to successfully make their way in the world.
The Founders
Charles and James Walker have continued to contribute to the world through the Walker Charitable Foundation they established and funded, even after their deaths. They were passionate about helping underprivileged families in their community, believed in higher education, and even had a love of flying. The Board Members
The work of the Foundation is all done by hard working, dedicated volunteers - from seven members of the Walker Foundation Board to the individual mentors assigned to guide each scholarship recipient. Many come from education and professional backgrounds and serve without pay. They work hard to help their mentees with many issues including, at times, things their mentees have to deal with that are not confined to formal education matters. Scholarship Program
The first Walker Charitable Foundation Scholarships were awarded in the Fall of 2016. Since then, over 100 scholars have been financially assisted from the foundation.
The legacy of Charles and James Walker lives on in the bright, promising graduates of the Walker Charitable Foundation who can start their professional careers with no debt and the knowledge to negotiate their way in the world, assume responsibility for themselves, and be of help to others.
